Seventh Second Term-Science(English)

Human Body Form and Function:
1.Integumentary system of our body are skin,nail,sweat gland and oil gland.
2.Digestive system includes mouth,food pipe,stomach,liver,intestine and secretary glands.

3.The digested food are absorbed and distributed through blood stream.
4.Respiration is used to breakdown food into simpler forms with the help of oxygen and enzymes.
5.Skeletal system includes bones,cartilages and ligments.
6.Human body has 206 bones.
7.Bone marrow produces RBC,WBC and Platelets.
8.Muscles generates heat for body temperature.
9.Our facial expressions are created by 40 muscles.
10.Crab and lobsters have blue blood and cockroach have colourless blood.
11.RBC contain haemoglobin which gives red colour.
12.The normal pulse rate is 72/min.
13.Nervous system has two systems.They are Central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
14.A group of ductless glands in our body forms a system called endocrine system.
15.These glands secretes certain chemicals called harmones.
16.Harmones are transmitted through blood.
17.Food which gets spoiled at room temperature are called Perishable food.
18.Food which doesnot gets spoiled at room temperature are called Non-perishable food.
19.The process of heating of milk upto 70-75degree for sometime and immediately cooling is called Pasteurization.
20.Methods of prevention of food are drying,heating,freezing,addition of salt & sugar and Irradiation.
21.Siddha was founded by 18 spritual people called Siddhars.
22.Siddha is derived from Siddi which means External bliss.
23.Agastiyar is called father of siddha medicine.
24.The food we eat is breakdown into glucose and the nominal glucose level is 80-120mg/dl.
25.Insulin is a harmone secreted by pancreas to control glucose level.



Respiration in plants and animals:
1.Organs that work all 24 hours are brain,kidney,lungs and heart.
2.The process of oxidation of food to release energy along with water and CO2 as waste is called Respiration.
3.The average breating rate is 16 to 18 times/min.
4.Bacteria and fungi are used in converting sugar into glucose.
5.Respiration that requires oxygen is called Aerobic respiration.
6.Respiration that doesnot requires oxygen is called Anaerobic respiration.
7.Yeast is called one celled fungi.
8.During respiration heat energy is released.
9.Below lungs is a strong,flat sheet of muscles called Diaphragm.
10.Number of times a man breathe in a minute is called breathing rate.
11.As we breathe diaphragm moves down and rib moves up to create space.
12.Carbon di oxide has the property of turning the lime water milky.
13.Sound is a useful by product of respiratory system.
14.Plants breathe through tiny holes called stomata.
15.All parts of the plants like stem,root and leaves respires.



Matter & its nature:
1.The process of crystal formation is called Crystallization.
2.Conversion of solids directly into gas is called sublimation.
3.A substance that undergoes changes in physical property but not in chemical property is called physical change.
4.Rusting is the formation of reddish brown layer on the surface.
5.Iron reacts with oxygen to form hydrated iron oxide is called rust.
6.Calcium chloride is a dehydrating agent.
7.Vegetables and fruits turn brown because of reation between Phenolic compound in fruit and oxygen.
8.Phenolic compound and oxygen reacts to form brown pigment called  melanin.
9.The discolouration of silver spoon is called Tarnishing.
10.Acid is derived from Latin word Acidus which means sour.
11.Acids have replaceable hydrogen atoms.
12.Acids which are obtained from plants and animals is called organic acid.
13.Acids that are obtained from minerals are called mineral acid.
14.HNO3,H2SO4 and HCl cannot corrode glass and ceramics.
15.Substances that are bitter and soapy are called bases.
16.Nature of base is basic.
17.Bases are oxides or hydroxides of metals.
18.Caustic soda and caustic potash are very corrosive.
19.Bases gives hydroxyl ions when treated with water.
20.Bases soluble in water are called alkalies.
21.Alkali is derived from Arabic word alquili which means plant ash.
22.Ashes of plants composed of sodium and pottasium carbonates.
23.To find whether a substance is base or acid we need to use indicator.
24.Indicators changes colour when introduced to acidic or basic solution.
25.Litmus,methyl orange and phenolpthalene are indicator in lab.



26.Turmeric,red cabbage juice and beetroot juice are natural indicators.
27.Commonly used natural indicator is litmus.
28.Litmus is extracted from litchens.
29.Litmus turns purple in water red in acid and blue in base.
30.Litmus paper generally available as blue & red litmus.
31.Neutral solution is distilled water.
32.Cell in human body contains acid.
33.DNA in cell controls the physical features of the body.
34.Proteins are body builders and it contains amino acid.
35.Fats contains fatty acids.
36.Sulphuric acid is called king of acid.
37.Stomach produce HCl acid.
38.Milk is good in neutralizing acidity.
39.An ant bite can be neutralized by rubbing the area with zinc carbonate,baking soda or calamine.
40.Calcium phosphate and Calcium Lactate is required for proper body function.
41.Sodium chloride is used as preservative.
42.Sodium bicarbonate is used in baking cakes.
43.Aluminium Sulphate and Hydrated potassium is used in purification of water.
44.Sodium carbonate is used as washing powder.
45.Copper Sulphide is used as insecticide.
46.Potassium Nitrate is used as gun powder.
47.Magnesium Hydroxide is called milk of magnesia.
48.Vinegar contains acetic acid.
49.Lemon contains citric acid.
50.Tomato contains oxalic acid.
51.Grape contains tartaric acid.
52.Milk contains latic acid.
53.Ant contains formic acid.
54.Apple contains malic acid.



Electricity:
1.Electricity is transmitted by step up transformer.
2.A device that convert chemical energy into electrical energy is called cell.
3.A two different metal plate in the cell is called electrodes.
4.Electrodes are kept inside electrolyte.
5.Electrodes produce positive and negative charge.
6.The first electric cell was invented by luigi Galvani and improved by Alexsandro Volta.
7.In an electric circuit current flows from positive to negative terminal.
8.Galvanometer is used to detect the flow of current in a circuit.
9.Heat produced in the wire depends on duration and quantity of current flow.
10.Heating element in an electric kettle is nicrome.
11.Electric bulb has tungsten filament.
12.Miniature circuit breakers is an automatically operated electric switch.
13.Christian Oersted found that the magnetic effect of electric current.
14.Cell is of two types.They are primary and secondary cell.
15.Tamil Nadu ranks first in wind energy production.
