Jim and Della were an ideal couple.Jim was aged twenty two and was greatly loved by Della.Della's beautiful long hair and Jim's gold watch were their two proud possessions.
First Jim's income was thirty dollar per week.Later it was reduced to twenty dollars per week.So their life was a combination of joy and sorrows.It was the Christmas eve.The next day was Christmas day.Della wanted to buy a valuable gift for Jim without his knowledge.She counted her savings.It was only one dollar and eighty seven cents.It was not sufficient to buy a valuable gift.So she cut her long hair and sold it for twenty dollars.Then she bought a beautiful platinum chain for twenty one dollars.Jim wanted to buy a valuable gift for Della without her knowledge.But he had no money.So he sold his gold watch and a bought a set of beautiful costly combs.Then he returned home.He was shocked to know that Della had sold her hair.Della also was shocked to know that Jim had sold his gold watch.Both the gifts became meaningless now.Della had no hair to use the combs and Jim had no watch to use the chain.They kept away their Christmas gift for a while and said"Merry Christmas".They sacrificed their own possessions for buying Christmas present for others.Really they were the Magi.The Magi were the three wise persons who bought presents for the infant Jesus.
