Matilda Loisel was a pretty young lady of Paris.She married a petty clerk.Both of them were poor.One day her husband brought an invitation for a function at the Minister's residence.
Matilda was not happy.She had no suitable dress to attend the party.Her husband had saved 400 francs to buy a gun.Matilda buy a pretty dress for that money.On the day of the party again Matilda was not happy.Now she had no jewels to decorate her.Her rich friend Forestier lent her a diamond necklace.Matilda went to the party.She was the prettiest of all in the hall.She was dancing happily.The party went off well and she returned home in the morning.On reaching home she was shocked to know that her necklace was missing.Both husband and wife search for the diamond necklace everywhere.But they could not find it.They had to return it to Forestier.So they bought a new diamond necklace for 36,000 francs Mr.Loisel borrowed 18,000 from his father.He borrowed the rest.Matilda returned the new necklace to her friend.After that she worked hard for ten years to repay the debt.Her life became very miserable.She lost her charming beauty.One day Matilda met her friend,Mme.Forestier.
