Sixth First Term-Science(English)

World of plants:
1.Plants having medicinal values are called Herbal plants.
2.Kerala is known as species garden of India.
3.Coir ropes are obtained from coconut fibre.
  Classification of fibres are:
 1) Stem Fibre- Plantain Fibre and jute.
 2) Leaf Fibre- Aloevera and Pineapple.
 3)External Fibre-Outer region of seed.
4).Dark inner region of stem is called Heartwood and outer region is called Sapwood.

Function:
1)Sapwood- conducts water(Affected by Fungus).
2)Heartwood-strength and regidity(Not affected by Fungus because of Gum,latex etc..).

5.Rafflesia produces largest flower of  size 1 diameter.
6.Jute(85% cellulose) is used for making bio-plastics.

Plants & Uses:
  1. Pea egg plant cures cold.
  2. Carry me seed helps in curing jaundice.
  3. veldt grapes increases appetite & cures digestive problem.
  4. sweet flag cures abdominal diseases.
Tress & uses:
  1. Jack fruit is used for construction & fruits.
  2. Eucalyptus is used for oil and paper.
  3. Silk cotton is used for making match stick and match box.
  4. Mulberry is used for making tennis rocket and hockey Stick.
  5. Pine Tree is used for manufacturing railway sleepers & ship building.
  6. Willow is used for making cricket bat.
  7. Babul tree is used for making the part of bullock cart



Food Habits:
1.The constituents of the food which are essential for the body are called Nutrients.2.A food that contain nutrient in correct proportion is called Balanced diet.
3.Organism which prepare their own food is called Autotrophic.
4.Organisms which depends on other organisms is called Heterotrophic.
5.Organisms which depends on other on other living organism for food and survival is called Parasite.
6.Organism which are found at outer surface of other organism is called Ectoparasite.

Nutrient & Functions:
  1. Carbohydrates provides energy.
  2. Protein helps in growth.
  3. Fat provides energy.
  4. Vitamins helps in physiological activities.
  5. Minerals regulates physiological activities.
  6. Water helps in transportation of food and regulates body temperature.
Nutrients& its Deffiency:
  1. Deficiency of calcium leads to weak bones.
  2. Iron deficiency leads to anaemia.
  3. Iodine deficiency leads to goitre.
  4. Protein deficiency leads to kwashiorkar and marasmus.
  5. Vitamin-A deficiency leads to night blindness.
  6. Vitamin-B deficiency leads to beri-beri.
  7. Vitamin-C deficiency leads to scurvy.
  8. Vitamin-D deficiency leads to rickets.
  9. Vitamin-E deficiency leads to infertility.
  10. Vitamin-K deficiency leads to haemorrphage.



Magnetism:
1.Chinese found compass.
2.Magnets doesnot have definite shape and are called Leading stone (or) Lode stone.

Magnet loses its property when they are:
  • Heated
  • Dropped
  • Hammered
