Sixth Second Term-Social(English)

Vedic period:
1.The period of rig veda is BC 1500 - BC 1000.
2.The unit of currency used during rig vedic period is called Nishka, made of gold.
3.The women who excelled in education in later vedic period is Gargi.

4.The head of the village is Grahmini.
5.Widow's remarriage was in practice during early vedic period.
6.The rig vedic period is also called as Early vedic period.
7.According to sati,the widow would throw herself into the funeral pyre of her husband.
8.Aryans settled in Sabta Sindhu(the land of seven rivers)in Punjab.
9.The king was assisted by officials in his administration called Prohit and Senai.
10.The later vedic period is between BC 1000 - BC 600.
11.The period of  Sama veda,Atharvana veda and Yajur veda is called later vedic period.



Jainism and Buddhism:
1.Vardhamana Mahavir was the founder of jainism.
2.Gauthama Buddha was the founder of Buddhism.
3.In Jainism there were 24 Thirthangara.
4.The first thirthangara was Adhinathar who was called as Rishabadevar.
5.Vardhamana Mahavir was the last Thirthangara.
6.Mahavir was called as "Jina" which means conqueror.
7.Buddha's original name was Siddhartha.
8.Buddha enlightened under the pipal tree at Gaya.
9.Buddha preached his first sermon at Deer park in Sarnath and Banares.
10.The Buddhist religious texts are called Tripitakas.
11.The principle stressed by Jainism is not to kill.
12.A place in Tamilnadu where you can see Jain sculptures is Girnar.
13.One of the most important king who followed Buddhism is Ashoka.
14.The principles stressed by Jainism are called Five Doctrines.
15.Sarvanabelagola is at Karnataka is the place where Gomatheswara statue is situated.
16.The principles of Buddha are called Eight Fold Paths.
17.The organization of Buddhist monks is called Sangam.



Rotation&Revolution of Earth:
1.Aryabatta found that Earth rotates on its own axis not sun.
2.Earth is inclined at 23 1/2 degree(Reason for seasonal changes).
3.If Earth's axis were flat,then it will be 6 month of day&6 month of night(It happens in Uranus).
4.Seasonal changes are due to Revolution around the sun.
5.Sunlight falls on North pole & South pole varies due to Axis of the Earth.
6.On Dec 22nd sun rise mostly in south east & it started to move towards the north and is called Northern movement.
7.Sun moves towards north east & on21st june it reaches maximum of its point.
8.After this point the sun moves towards south and is called Southern Movements.
10.On 21st march & 23rd Sep the duration of days & night are Equal.
11.March 21st is called Spring Equinox.
12.Sep 23rd is called Autumnal Equinox.
13.At poles there will be month of days&month of  night.
14.At midday shadow will be Short(Faces North).
15.Sun is situated in one of the Convex centre in the elliptical path.
16.Northern Hemisphere & southern hemisphere have different seasons during the same month.This is called reversal of season.
17.23 1/2(Degree)N is called Tropic of Cancer.
18. 0 drgree is called Equator.
19. 23 1/2(Degree) Sis called Tropic of Capricorn.



Villages&Cities:
1.About 70% percent of people lives in rural area.
2.Gandhiji mentioned villages as Backbone of India.
3.Villages are also called Suburban area.
4. Sarva shiksha Abhiyan scheme enable children to enable study upto 8th standard.
5.To continue higher education Rastriya Madiyamik shiksha Abhiyan scheme is implemented.



Republic:
1.Only the elected members of Parliament&Assembly can make decisions,frame laws&various plans.
2.Supreme court is the guardian of constitution.
3. District Collector receives order from state government & implement it through its sub-ordinates.
4.Every Monday is called Grievence Day.
5.Once in a month District collector&District Revenue Officer conduct a camp in remote village to solve problems.
6.In a camp all the grievances are solved by Public Relationship program.
7.Executive head of Indian constitution is Prime Minister.
8.Rules&Regulations of government is called Constitution of nation.
